Joining Friends of eXtension (FOX)

During the 2008-2010 fiscal years, CSU Extension funding from the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners was greatly reduced.  In 2006 the funding was approximately $600K.  Between 2007 and 2009, the local budget for CSU Extension was repeatedly reduced to a low of $75K in the fiscal 2009-2010 period.  These cuts resulted in severe reductions in staff, including the elimination of entire program areas at the local level.

In 2010, interested individuals who were greatly concerned about these reductions organized a private organization that could raise funds to support local Extension programs as a complement to county funding.  This was the beginning of Friends of eXtension (FOX).

The primary mission of FOX is to facilitate fund raising activities.  The secondary mission is to apprise local elected officials of CSU Extension's added value and to solicit funding support from those officials for Extension programs and staff.  A third mission is to foster education of the public about Extension and the programs they offer.
